Scrittura 06

A long time ago, masks were only worn at carnival,
A symbol of the spirit of celebration and joy,
But now, masks are worn in everyday life,
For reasons that are not always so light.

Some wear masks to hide their true selves,
To protect themselves from the judgment and shame of the world,
But these masks can become a prison, such a heavy burden,
A burden on the shoulders that some barely carry.

Others wear masks, then trying to show their true selves,
Trying to express their individuality and unique traits,
But wearing a mask can also mean being misunderstood,
Because some people will never really see who you are.
